Classical Conversations Cycle 3 Week 3
Maybe by week three you are getting into a routine with your CC memory work. It takes a minute to figure out what works best for your family rhythm. I have found that having Monday is the day we introduce new grammar to prepare for community day, start a new read aloud, practice math and latin. I don’t prefer going to community day blind as to what we are learning, but I know some do community on Monday which would make that rhythm harder.
Tuesday is our community day and it is already full. Then I use the next three days to emphasize certain subjects. Wednesday is our history day. Thursday is science and geography. Friday is our 50 states book and Art. I prefer to deep dive into certain topics each day instead of trying to hit them all each day. Then of course we always listen to our playlist with our memory work songs each day as well. I go through this a little more extensively in my YouTube video linked at the bottom.
Classical Conversations Cycle 3 Week 3 we dove into the Boston Tea Party, created muscles in our hands, and drew some beautiful Georgia O’Keefe flowers!
BIBLE:
We stumbled upon Creation to Revelation when a friend gifted us one of their resources. Their products are high quality, beautiful and a great way to study the word with your children. This past school year we went through their Mommy and Me Exodus and Leviticus workbooks.
I love that their workbooks have an option for older kids which is shown open below and an option with a tracing and coloring component for my younger child. We can all be learning the same material, but each child is doing their independent work on their level.
This next year we are going to start going through their ABC Generations of Faith books. We will use some of this for our memory verses as well. You can purchase flashcards to go along with each set of workbooks which are fun also. I cannot recommend their products enough! Their are so many others on their website that you can find here.

SCIENCE:
Three years ago when we did our first year of CC I was clueless! I do however remember being zealous those first few weeks and doing some hands on science at home. This hand model was one of them and I knew they would love it again.
You simply trace and cut your hand out, cut pieces of a plastic straw and place as bones on double sided tape, run yarn through it and connect to the back of the finger. Once complete create a finger hole at the bottom of the yarn so that your child can pull on them and see the fingers move. Such a fun way to watch muscle in action!
We also watched Doodling Through Educations video this week. You can find it here. My resource from Etsy helped them to see the types of muscle and match them. You can find that resource here.

HISTORY:
If you have never taught in a classroom you may not know that they make really large paper that is like a post it. I happen to love using it as a way to create large illustrations and hanging them up for the week. Amazon now has their own version of the paper that I will link here.
This week we read some books on the Boston Tea Party and discussed the causes and effects. I found this simple drawing sample on Pinterest and copied it. I loved that it was a tea cup and tea bag. My kids were shocked that the Boston Tea Party was really talking about tea people drink. Also if your kids like tea that would be a fun addition to your discussion!
We of course watched Doodling Through Educations video on the Boston Tea Party. You can find it here. Watching videos is such a great way for them to have a few minutes of learning while I am setting something up, etc.

MATH:
Here is a picture of my math resource I created to help my kids practice their math memory work. We are really striving for memory master this year and this is an area we have struggled in.
In this digital download you will get flashcards that look patriotic with all the multiplication, squares, and cubes. It also comes with two ways to practice math facts. One way is dry erase and the other involves matching the answers. There is also fun fill in the blanks for the remainder of the 24 weeks memory work.
If you are interested in incorporating this resource for your children to practice their math also I will share the link to it here!

LATIN:
Here is a picture of my latin resource I created for this year’s memory work. Pictured is the matching and flashcards for classical conversations cycle 3 week 2. I created fun matching pages and flashcards. It also comes with pages that have the entire John 1 song in latin and English!
If you are interested in implementing this I will share the link to it here!

GEOGRAPHY:
Homemade pizza night is a big deal in our house already. Therefore West Virginia was an easy one to fit into our eating schedule. Instead of a normal pizza we made pepperoni rolls. The coal miners in West Virginia would eat a stick of pepperoni in one hand and a slice of bread in the other while working. The first rolls were probably created by miners wives in order for them to hold their whole meal in one hand. They began commercially producing them in 1927! It is their state food to this day!
Virginias food has a very interesting story as well. A Mexican restaurant owner in Norfolk created this sauce and originally served it as a salad dressing. People started to dip their chips in it a a condiment and it just stuck. In the 70’s it began being served alongside your traditional red salsa. This is how it got its nickname “white salsa”.
We also used my geography resource from Etsy which has so many ways to practice our states and capitals! You can find that resource here.

FINE ARTS:
The first week of fine arts I found a website called Art Projects for Kids and printed out a sheet like what you see below. I didn’t realize she also has YouTube videos explaining how to create these pictures as well.
I pulled up the video of this Georgia O’Keefe drawing and we all made our own versions of her floral artwork. The kids loved it! It was so simple and you really couldn’t mess it up which my son loved. You can find her site here. It contains the video and artwork sheet!
