Classical Conversations Cycle 3 Week 2

|

Join our family during Classical Conversations Cycle 3 Week 2 recap! We did a deep dive in to the Mayflower and Pilgrims. Our hands on science was fun as we learned about our skeleton and the way our bones work. I share all my resources from my Etsy shop that we incorporate into our weekly rhythm of learning our memory work. Plus a fun Picasso project!

If you missed my recap for week 1 you can find it here!

BIBLE:

I recently gifted this lego set to my children as a happy for Easter! It is seriously so cool and we plan to set it up in our homeschool room once it is finished. The company who made this set is newer. Their business is called Bible Bricks. I believe they have multiple lego options.

I loved that the handbook for the set had scripture all throughout to go with what they were building. Such a great way to make bible time fun, study the tabernacle, and end with a beautiful piece of artwork to display in your home! You can find this lego set here.

SCIENCE:

Science was super fun this week! I decided to do two different activities with my kids to discuss their bones and skeleton. We have chickens so it was easy to find an egg carton. We simply cut it up into individual pieces. Cut slits on each side and then slid a piece of card stock we had cut through them. It allows the spine to be moveable. It was simple but a fun way to occupy hands while we read books and discussed.

I also saw this STEM activity where you take play dough and ask your kids to get it as tall as they can without it falling over. Then you give them a straw which acts as their bone. They do it again but wrap it around the straw to see how tall they can make it. It’s amazing the difference in height and helps you discuss the function of our bones and how we need them.

We also love watching Doodling Through Educations videos. You can find this week’s video here.

I have a science resource in my Etsy shop that includes 24 weeks of memory work matching. I tried to be sure the pictures matched what was being discussed so they could have a visual of these parts of the human body they are learning. You can find that resource here.

HISTORY:

I have found that it is hard to take the kindergarten teacher out of me some days. I am a sucker for a cute craft like the ones I used to have my whole class make and then throw onto a bulletin board. I couldn’t resist these adorable “All About Pilgrims” crafts.

Each of my older kids got to pick the facts they liked best and write on their papers. I helped my daughter who did the craft exactly like the picture I found. My son was over there doing his own thing and I am obsessed with his bearded pilgrim with no body, lol.

You can print this freebie for classical conversations cycle 3 week 2 I made below!

We found a fun little series on Youtube by Charlie Brown called This is America. They have an episode about the Mayflower Voyagers. You can find that episode here. We also watched Doodling Through educations video on the Pilgrims. You can find that episode here.

My daughter read The Mayflower Secret the minute I brought it home. She said she highly recommends it!

MATH:

Here is a picture of my math resource I created to help my kids practice their math memory work. We are really striving for memory master this year and this is an area we have struggled in.

In this digital download you will get flashcards that look patriotic with all the multiplication, squares, and cubes. It also comes with two ways to practice math facts. One way is dry erase and the other involves matching the answers. There is also fun fill in the blanks for the remainder of the 24 weeks memory work.

If you are interested in incorporating this resource for your children to practice their math also I will share the link to it here!

LATIN:

Here is a picture of my latin resource I created for this year’s memory work. Pictured is the matching and flashcards for classical conversations cycle 3 week 2. I created fun matching pages and flashcards. It also comes with pages that have the entire John 1 song in latin and English!

If you are interested in implementing this I will share the link to it here!

GEOGRAPHY:

I ran to our local thrift book store yesterday and hit the jackpot! I found a Passport to America book that has a dedicated page for each state. It was one of my favorite book finds to date!

Now we have a great resource to use for our fifty states book pages! So far I am loving all the information we are reading about our 50 states. Most of which I didn’t know about and it’s making me want to visit a few new states to experience it myself.

This week we chose Vermont and New Jersey to highlight for our book. I made sourdough bagels for the first time and they were super good! Our family makes maple cookies for Thanksgiving each year. Vermont was a great excuse to have another reason to make those delicious little cookies.

We also used my geography resources I created for my Etsy shop. It is such a great way to expand on geography and be stretched and used over all 24 weeks. My favorite part is the little states and capitals you can use on your CC maps to practice labeling the US. You can find the link to that resource here.

FINE ARTS:

I am honestly not the biggest fan of Picasso. However, I loved this art project I found! We all took turns rolling the dice to see which facial feature we were going to draw. They all turned out adorable and was easy for my youngest child to do solo also. You really can’t mess this artwork up! You can find that roll a Picasso page here.

We also watched this cute video about Who is Pablo Picasso, here.
