Classical Conversations Cycle 3 Week 4

|

Classical Conversations Cycle 3 Week 4 gave us a great look into our country discussing the Declaration of Independence. We had such a fun time connecting so many historical events in order to see the big picture. My kids also loved looking at our brain closer and how it functions. Join us as we go through the ways in which we expand our knowledge beyond memory songs and truly study our different CC subjects at home!

BIBLE:

Farmhouse on Boone is a favorite of mine for listening to in the car. I find so many great people on the internet who are guest on her show. This one was a fun find recently. A podcast dedicated to nature and tying it into God’s word.

Not only that but they have an episode dedicated to the brain. What a perfect thing to listen to with your children as we study that in science this week. You can find her website with links to all of her resources including her podcast here.

SCIENCE:

I didn’t want to copy the spine activity we have already done or the playdough nerve we had already created the first week. That left the brain! I wanted to really emphasize the brain this week. Pinterest is such a treasure and I was able to find a free print out of a brain. I used some double sided tape and it came together really quickly. You can find the link to what I used here.

Book wise we used the same two human books we have been using. I love being able to use the same books each week!! I did also grab this book about brains. It was listed on CC Connected for this week’s book list. Also, I am loving my science resource I made. It’s a great way to practice the memory work while also seeing the parts of the body! That resource is listed here.

HISTORY:

I have to really restrain myself from having a million books to go along with CC each week. So many books so little time! I will say I have two kids old enough to independently read and they love grabbing my books and reading them to themselves which a lot of times is the only way we get through them all.

This subject in particular could have had a very long list of read alouds. I would for sure go to the library and grab tons of them! Did I mention that I love Pinterest! I also love how teachers post things for the simple fact that they want people to be able to see their creativity and copy it for themselves. I am a great copycat! This ladder to American independence (I am aware I misspelled independence, I was talking while writing) was too cute not to use this week! I used my Amazon post it paper again as well.

MATH:

Here is a picture of my math resource I created to help my kids practice their math memory work. We are really striving for memory master this year and this is an area we have struggled in.

In this digital download you will get flashcards that look patriotic with all the multiplication, squares, and cubes. It also comes with two ways to practice math facts. One way is dry erase and the other involves matching the answers. There is also fun fill in the blanks for the remainder of the 24 weeks memory work.

If you are interested in incorporating this resource for your children to practice their math also I will share the link to it here!

LATIN:

Here is a picture of my latin resource I created for this year’s memory work. Pictured is the matching and flashcards for classical conversations cycle 3 week 2. I created fun matching pages and flashcards. It also comes with pages that have the entire John 1 song in latin and English!

If you are interested in implementing this I will share the link to it here!

GEOGRAPHY:

Picking out our state foods each week is becoming quite the highlight for us. It is so easy to fit them into our week and make them a fun piece of our CC studies. We picked key lime pie for Florida but it just looks like lemon pie, haha. It is beyond delicious! Excuse my child for writing in lime pen to match the theme that you can’t read. I knew immediately that we would be trying Alabamas white bbq sauce and I am wondering why it took me such a long time to try that. We will be making that again for sure!

I added a few more thrift book store finds to go along with our fifty states books also. We also used my geography resource from Etsy which has so many ways to practice our states and capitals! You can find that resource here.

FINE ARTS:

Classical Conversations Cycle 3 week 4 fine arts features abstract art. The first video option I found has the students drawing a Native American inspired bird. I love how everything ties into our cycle themes in CC! That video is linked here. The second option I found was different types of Native American hats with feathers. You can find that video here.

I found another fun video about a specific artist that created abstract art. It can be found here. I have a book about him as well to incorporate into this week’s art study.
