Classical Conversations Cycle 3 Week 1

This is our fourth year and we are finally hitting our stride with CC! I felt lost for multiple years. If that’s you, you are not alone. Hoping to share some ideas of how to expand CC at home with your sweet kiddos and get the most out of each week’s memory work!

While this technically isn’t a CC subject strand each week, it’s still the most important focus for our family! My goal is to share with you one idea of how to incorporate bible into your homeschool routine. We have used many curriculums, activities, and books throughout our years that will hopefully inspire how you teach your kids the word at home!

First on the list is our current curriculum! We use this every morning as we start our day. Apologetics Press has a new family devotional book. This book goes in order throughout scripture highlighting people and their accomplishments. It quotes scripture from their biblical accounts and gives thought provoking questions to help your child think about what they are learning.

As a BONUS, you can purchase bible character cards that go along with the book. My kids are obsessed!! They are super high quality and beat Pokemon cards any day.

Science is such a great subject to expand on at home. I know the kids love doing science experiments at community day so why not do more!

This first week we read about tissues and re-created them using play dough to match my science pages from my Etsy shop. I’ll link that here. Human body books are great because they will cover lots of weeks of CC all from the same book!

History is one of my favorite parts of CC! It’s one area in which I realize I wasn’t educated growing up and I love learning alongside my children each week.

Most of what we do for history involves reading books. I picked up a few books at a thrift store that include Columbus. I’ll have those listed below under my book list. The one photographed standing up was such a find! It’s a pop up book called The Voyage of Columbus and its such a fun addition.

Our craft was simple and only involved some construction paper but my kids loved it! We also enjoyed watching Doodling Through Educations video on Christopher Columbus. I will put that link here.

Here is a picture of my math resource I created to help my kids practice their math memory work. We are really striving for memory master this year and this is an area we have struggled in.

In this digital download you will get flashcards that look patriotic with all the multiplication, squares, and cubes. It also comes with two ways to practice math facts. One way is dry erase and the other involves matching the answers. There is also fun fill in the blanks for the remainder of the 24 weeks memory work.

Here is a picture of my latin resource I created for this year’s memory work. I created fun matching pages and flashcards. It also comes with pages that have the entire John 1 song in latin and English!

Geography has been an area the past three years that I have neglected. I am excited to be back around to United States geography and become more zealous to discover fun facts about all our 50 States!

We ran to the library and picked up a few books that were set in Maine and Boston. It’s week one and I am already shocked at the foods that are eaten most in each of these states. I knew seafood was huge in the New England states but I knew clams and lobster wouldn’t be a hit with my kids.

In order to make celebrating and trying new foods from all 50 states manageable I have mapped out two a week to highlight. (two weeks have three) This week we chose Maine and Rhode Island. We surprised daddy with wild blueberry handpies from Maine. I treated myself with special coffee syrup all the way from Rhode Island to try their Coffee milk! Turns out coffee milk is life changing and I will be ordering this coffee syrup forever! I’ll link it here. We had our treats while working on our state page for our 50 states book we will make this year from my shop.

We also used my geography resources I created for my Etsy shop. It is such a great way to expand on geography and be stretched and used over all 24 weeks. My favorite part is the little states and capitals you can use on your CC maps to practice labeling the US. You can find the link to that resource here.

Full transparency I am not perfect, haha. I literally did this entire post and it took me to week four to realize I did the wrong art for the first three weeks. I’m very confused as to why on CC Connected they post about the artist we are studying starting week 13. Oh well I figured it out at some point. So no we aren’t doing Grandma Moses this week, but we are introducing oiLs.

There are so many good resources on YouTube with other CC moms doing art lessons for week one. I particularly loved Art with Alli because I thought the bird in the tree was just the cutest! You can find that video here.

My goal was to create resources that I wanted to have for my children and then share them with others to hopefully help fill in gaps in your homeschool as well! I hope you will give a few of these a try!
