How to Make Red Velvet Ooey Gooey Bars

Step 1:In a large bowl, stir the cake mix, 1 stick melted butter, and 1 egg together to make the crust.

Step 2: Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the pan.

Step 3: In another large bowl, use a mixer to beat the cream cheese until smooth.

Step 4: Add in the eggs and mix well. Next, add the butter and mix well. Last, gradually add the powdered sugar and mix until combined. Mix in the vanilla.

Step 5: Spread the filling mixture into the pan on top of the crust.

Step 6: Add sprinkles or another mix in of your choice.

Step 7: Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes or until the edges are brown and the center still a little gooey!!!

  • Use a silicone spatula while working with the crust. Wet the spatula when spreading it into the pan.

Ingredients

  • 1 box red velvet cake mix
  • 2 stick melted butter, used separately
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 8 oz block cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degress. Spray a 9x13 baking dish with nonstick baking spray.
  2. In a large bowl combine 1 stick melted butter, 1 egg and the cake mix. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the pan.
  3. In another large bowl, use a mixer to beat cream cheese until smooth.
  4. Add 2 eggs and mix well. Add the other stick of melted butter and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the powdered sugar and mix until combined. Mix in the vanilla.
  6. Pour the filling mixture over the crust. For a festive look add sprinkles!
  7. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until the edges are just firm and the middle is still a little jiggly. Let cool before slicing into squares.

Notes

  • This recipe can be made with any cake mix you have. It will alter the flavor but not the baking result.
  • When pressing the crust into the pan it works best to wet a silicone spatula in order for it not to stick.
