Homemade Sloppy Joes
These homemade sloppy joes come together in under 20 minutes and combine the perfect flavors. Toast your bun, pile on the meat, and dig in!

At one point in time I would have told you that I didn’t like sloppy joes. When the only version you have ever had is manwich than you probably agree. I loved the idea of making sloppy joes for my family and started the cycle of testing recipes.
My final recipe came together by me writing down exactly what I was doing. Heaping squirts of this and spoonfuls of that. I made them by that recipe card for a long time. This was the first ever recipe I came up with on my own and I was so proud of it!
I know most people want actual measurements when making a recipe. I’m not mad about having them either because I know this recipe comes out perfectly every single time! A little sweet and a little spice makes the perfect homemade sloppy joes!
Why You’ll Love These Sloppy Joes
Quick- As busy moms we all need those recipes in our back pocket that we can throw together in under 30 minutes. This one is usually done in under 20!!! Its one of our favorite Sunday lunch recipe that we can make and eat quickly without taking up our entire afternoon.
Great Leftovers- Not everyone loves eating leftovers. I know there are certain things I don’t love eating for leftovers. These taste just as delicious heated up as they do the first time you eat them. It’s great for making double and then having lunch the next day as well.
Customizable- Everyone has a different opinion of spice level. Some may have kids that dislike anything spicy, some may be somewhat ok, or you are like me and you like the added heat. If you need to adjust for different levels simply make the recipe without the chipotles in adobo at first. Keep out however much you need for those who don’t like spice and then add them in. Add just one for a little spice and two for a bit more kick.

How to Make Homemade Sloppy Joes

Step 1: Brown meat and onions, drain.
Step 2: Add in bbq sauce, ketchup, and mustard.

Step 3: Add in spices, brown sugar, and chipotles.
Step 4: Let the mixture heat up and brown the buns in a skillet with some butter.

Notes
- If you like your food with a little kick I would do two chipotles in adobo, but if you are feeding kids you can make it with one or take their meat out first and then add them in. My kids don’t mind a little heat so I do one.
- I cannot stress enough how much of a difference it makes to use the Kinders honey hot bbq sauce. It really makes the recipe perfect!
- Toasting the buns is a MUST! It makes such a difference with how delicious these sandwiches are. Our preference is a brioche hamburger bun.
