Christmas Fudge (GF)

| |

This old fudge recipe has stood the test of time. It has a wonderful rich and creamy chocolate flavor. It is the perfect holiday treat!

This is one of those recipes that seems very intimidating. I remember growing up and watching my aunt make this for us and always wondering if I would be able to master it one day. To be honest I haven’t had to make it very many times because my aunt always makes multiple batches of this fudge for the whole family around Christmas. This Christmas my son is 2 and finally understands what’s going on. He has helped me decorate, shop and bake for the Holidays. My aunt wanted to make him his very first pan of fudge this year so she came over with all the supplies. My son was very impatient but when the fudge cooled he was so excited to try. Needless to say he was a big fan.

Traditions like these are what make the holidays so special. I love keeping childhood traditions alive for my own kids as well as make new ones. We make this fudge in many different flavors such as white chocolate and peanut butter. This fudge only has a few simple ingredients and is also known as fantasy fudge. I am sure many of you have a family favorite fudge recipe. I know I had friends growing up who loved their fudge made with velvetta cheese. (Take my advice and dont try it, lol) No matter what it will always be on my Christmas menu!

Why You’ll Love These

  • These are great for gift giving!
  • These are so creamy and rich. If you aren’t one to like something so sweet you can try these with saltine crackers. My husbands family swears by eating their fudge with crackers and my family thinks its a sin but to each his own.

Tools You May Need

  • Candy Thermometer- Optional
  • Heavy Bottom Saucepan
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Timer

Tips and Tricks

  • This recipe starts out slow and then goes very quickly. Its easier if you have all ingredients measured and ready before you begin.
  • I recommend using a candy thermometer so you don’t overcook the fudge. If you do happen to overcook the fudge it is still very much edible but will be a little crumbly and not as smooth.

Ingredients

  • Butter
  • Sugar
  • Marshmallow Creme
  • Evaporated Milk
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • Vanilla

Step by Step Instructions

  1. In a medium size saucepan add the butter, sugar and evaporated milk. Cook on medium heat until it comes to a rapid roiling boil.
  2. Once it has come to a rapid boil set timer for 4 minutes. You can use a candy thermometer to make sure mixture doesn’t go above 234 degrees but this is optional. Stir mixture constantly.
  3. Once timer goes off remove from heat and add in chocolate chips. Stir until smooth.
  4. Add Marshmallow creme and vanilla and stir until fully incorporated.
  5. Spread into greased 11X7 or 9X13. Let cool before cutting.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 1//2 sticks butter
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 bag or 2 cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 1- 7oz jar marshmallow creme
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts optional

Instructions

  1. Prepare 7X11 or 9X13 inch pan by coating it in softened butter.
  2. In a medium heavy bottom pot add butter, sugar and milk over medium heat.
  3. Bring mixture to a roiling boil stirring continuously to prevent burning. Boil for exactly 4 minutes. We like to use a candy thermometer and always make sure it never reaches above 234 degrees.
  4. Remove mixture from heat and stir in chocolate chips until smooth.
  5. Add the marshmallow creme and vanilla and stir until fully combined.
  6. Immediately transfer into pan and leave to cool before slicing.

Notes

We like to use a 7X11 pan so the fudge is thicker but a 9X13 works great, especially if you are feeding a crowd.

You can sub the chocolate chips for 2 large spoonfuls of peanut butter and make peanut butter fudge.
