Charlotte’s Web Homeschool Study
An important part of any homeschool routine is reading aloud to your kids. It’s a favorite part of our day to see what happens next in whatever book we are reading. At the top of every read aloud book list is the classic novel, Charlotte’s Web. This Charlotte’s Web homeschool study takes read alouds up a notch.
The story involves a sweet young girl who saves the runt of the pig litter. Sweet little Wilbur lives on a farm down the road and she visits him daily. Wilbur is in distress when he learns he is supposed to become Christmas dinner. Charlotte saves him by writing words about him in his web.
Reading a book aloud to your kids is wonderful in and of itself. However, creating a study on the book creates enthusiasm and added anticipation.
Art Hub for Charlotte’s Web
If you have never heard of Art Hub on Youtube then you are missing out. My kids use art hub weekly to do fun drawing projects. I typed in Charlotte’s web and found lots of cute choices for the kids to do throughout the week.

How precious are these adorable pictures depicting Wilbur, Charlotte, and Templeton. You can find Art Hub here to use with your kids at home also.
Charlotte’s Web Novel Study Ideas
If you have never used Canva as a homeschool mom you are missing out. I create all types of sheets for us to use in our homeschool activities. It’s super simple and they all turn out super cute without me having to always buy things off other peoples websites.
I started thinking of ways we could learn using Charlotte’s web. As a past school teacher I love a story board! Making a cute board to write down the author, setting, characters, problem, solution, and summary. My kids loved it! You can find these amazon easel pads here.

One challenge with homeschooling can be catering to all ages at the same time. Having a 5 year old up to a 10 year old is a definitely a difference. Book studies are a great way to involve all your kids. I created worksheets that could be used for different ages that involved everyone.

All four of us came up with one words to describe Charlotte, Wilbur, and Templeton. It’s fun to see what sticks out to them about each of them. With my older two I had them draw a picture and write their favorite part of the book.
Next, we then did a web of words. My kids looked through the book and gave me tons of words that we could look up the definitions to. We then picked three to define below. This was such a great activity to expand vocabulary. Charlotte’s web does a great job of using different words that you can learn from.

Also, with my younger child I created a beginning sounds worksheet. I then did a sheet with a sheep where he could practice counting the wool to add to the sheep. This helps with number identification and counting.
I will link the set of worksheets I made for you to use here.
Themed Movie Night and Dinner
I’m gonna be honest this is what really gets my family excited about read alouds. The anticipation of a fun themed supper to eat before watching a new movie about the book we just read.
For this I looked up a lot of farm themed and even halloween themed food ideas. There are so many more that you could make for your kids.

My kids love punch that you drink at a baby shower. Our family uses a recipe from my husbands grandmother called pink punch. I had made some for a shower and had some left over. They got lucky and I was able to use it with some ginger ale to create Wilbur’s brew. You could use any fun drink for this. I wanted something kind of pink like a pig.
First, for Charlotte I chose to make our chocolate chip cream cheese ball. That recipe is on the blog here. I just made it and then spooned it onto a plate with a large body and small head. Then, I pressed the chocolate chips all over the body. Last, I melted some chocolate chips and piped them onto a baking lined with parchment paper to create the legs.
Last, I just threw some Arby’s curly fries into the air fryer to be Wilbur’s tails. Turns out my kids have never had them and obviously they thought they were delicious.

Templeton wasn’t very fun to look up, haha. I am not a fan of rat looking food. However I did find a few cute options. My five year old is obsessed with laughing cow cheese which is why this was the option I chose. Another adorable one was a strawberry with chocolate for the ears and nose with a chocolate curl tail.
Of course everyone knows about pigs in a blanket. They are a classic and absolutely delicious. For the main dish I made my crockpot pulled pork which you can find here. I think put it on rolls and called them baa-baa-que sliders. Seriously the cutest!

There were so many other cute options for things to make. I loved the idea of making webs with pretzels and chocolate. Or I saw some cute webs with apple rings as well. I realized last minute I didn’t have pretzels so we had to nix that idea.
I have all of these adorable cards that I cut out and added to pink construction paper in the same document with the worksheets. You can find that here.
The movie night was the perfect ending to our Charlotte’s web read aloud. We chose to watch the old original movie, but you could watch the live action one as well. I hope your family enjoys this study as much as we did!!!
