Fall is my absolute favorite season. The weather here in Tennessee is perfect for going outside on fall adventures. I love to fit in as much fall fun as I can come October and November. One of the places we love to go to each year is the pumpkin patch and apple orchard. We were fortunate to find one near us that were both! I cant be the only one that loves a farm store. I walk in and immediately need everything. I will always buy a jar of homemade apple butter and then have no idea what to do with it. So in recent years I have accumulated some favorite recipes to use this wonder butter. So much so that I decided to can some apple butter myself this year so I can use it year round.
Why You’ll Love These Cookies
- The perfect seasonal cookie!
- These apple butter cookies are so easy to make. And better yet you don’t have to wait for your butter to soften, just melt it and start baking.

Tools You May Need
- Spatula
- Mixing Bowl
- Measuring Cups
- Cooling Rack
- Cookie Sheets
Tips and Tricks
- Start by melting the butter so it has a chance to come to room temperature. This will ensure you don’t cook your eggs when you add them in.
- Chill the dough before forming into balls so it is easier to work with.
- You can bang the cookie sheet on your island when you take cookies out of oven to make them flat and chewy. This gives them a nice chewy texture.
Ingredient Ideas
- You can use light or dark brown sugar, both work just fine.
- You could easily swap out pumpkin butter for apple butter and get a delicious pumpkin spice cookie.
- If you want a more decadent cookie then omit the cinnamon sugar coating and make a maple frosting to top the cookies with.
Ingredients:
- All-Purpose Flour
- Butter
- Brown Sugar
- Granulated Sugar
- Apple Butter
- Egg
- Vanilla Extract
- Cream of Tartar
- Salt
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
Step by Step Intructions
- Melt butter in microwave or on stove top and set aside to cool to room temperature.
- In a large bowl (Can you hand mixer or stand mixer) add in melted butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar. Mix until well combined. It will not be light a fluffy like when using room temperature butter. This will have more of a wet sand consistency.
- Scrape down sides of bowl and then add apple butter, egg and vanilla. Mix until combined.
- In a separate bowl whisk together flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and cream of tartar.
- Gradually add in the dry ingredients being careful not to overmix.
- Cover bowl and chill for 30 minutes in fridge.
- Once dough has chilled remove it and form into 1.5 tbsp balls. Roll the balls in your hand and coat in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 9 minutes. When you take cookies out of the oven you can bang them on the countertop a couple times which will help you achieve a chewier texture. Immediately place on a wire cooling rack so they don’t overcook.
